Obituary for Joseph Vito Troiano

Georgetown
Joseph Vito Troiano, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Georgetown SC surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Born on September 25th 1939 in Astoria, Queens (NYC), he was the son of the late Joseph Lawrence & Jessie Troiano.
“Joe” attended Niagara University in upstate New York with a degree in Economics. On March 3rd, 1962 he married Sophia Antoinette Swierzbin in Plainview, New York. Together, they were blessed to have five children. Joe and Sophia enjoyed raising their family together, as well as, spending time with neighbors & friends. Joe was a Deputy Director at Grumman Aerospace for 39 years on Long Island, NY & Clarks Summit, PA where he made lifelong relationships with many employees.
Joe’s passion in life included raising his five children, coaching his kids’ baseball and softball teams, golfing, and boating. Joe and Sophia retired in 1998 and moved to DeBordieu in Georgetown, SC – where they built a house for their kids and grandkids – to have a place to be together and share memories. Some of his favorite times out and about were to spend time with his grandchildren either at the beaches of DeBordieu (July 4th was always a special weekend), babysitting his grandkids, crabbing or watching them play sports. He loved Sophia’s cooking and sat with her at the beach often and read books – a very special time for them.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sophia; his children Terri Deane (Dave), Joe Troiano (Iris), Patti Barry (Bill), Barbara van Beyrer, Bill Troiano (Lea Ann), and 11 grandchildren, Robert and Kathryn Deane, Kayla and Mia Troiano, Megan and Mac Barry, Baylee and Cooper van Beyrer, Nate, Riley and Hope Troiano. His sisters Lorraine Jurcy (Ron), Mary Lou Bussolini (Jake) and brother, John Troiano (Evelyn) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Troiano’s are grateful for all the love, care and support you have all given us this past year, during a very difficult time – our hearts go out to you! Truly a great community of family and friends. A special thanks to Joe’s caregivers - Remella, Hazel, Heather, Amy, Doris and Alice –they all helped to make his last year as comfortable as possible. We can’t thank you enough!
