Obituary for Meyer Rosen

Meyer Rosen, age 98, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018. He was born in Georgetown, SC on November 17, 1919, the son of the late Harry N. Rosen and Dora Lewenthal Rosen.
Meyer grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School in 1937, then left to attend the University of South Carolina. While attending the University of South Carolina, he was a member of the Blue Key Honorary Leadership Fraternity, a member of Who’s Who in America and Head Varsity Cheerleader. Meyer served in the Unites States Army Signal Corp from October 1941 to November 1945 where he spent time in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines during WW II. In 1948, Meyer graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law and joined his brother, Sylvan L. Rosen, to form the law firm of Rosen and Rosen in Georgetown where he practiced law until 2005. He married Lillian M. Rubin of Georgetown in 1948. He served two terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1963 to 1966 and was very active in the community. He was involved in several organizations over the years: the V.F. W., the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, the Red Cross and the Winyah Indigo Society. He also served as president of Temple Beth Elohim in Georgetown for a number of years. In 1999 he was honored by the Governor of South Carolina with the Order of the Palmetto.
Surviving are his two daughters, Beverly Rosen and Phyllis Bessert (Jack), grandson, Nathan Bessert, nephews, Benedict Rosen (Brenda) and Larry Rosen (Roberta), great nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends Ruthena Wineglass and Sandra Bedenbaugh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Rubin Rosen, his son, Mark Gladstone Rosen (Terri Johns), and his brother, Sylvan Lewenthal Rosen.
Funeral services will be eleven o’clock Tuesday morning, August 28, 2018, at the graveside in Temple Beth Elohim Cemetery in Georgetown. Officiating will be Rabbi Avi Perets. Burial will follow in the Cemetery.
