Obituary

Andrews: Albert "Bert" Henry Payne, Jr., 87, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Prince George Healthcare Center in Georgetown. Mr. Payne was born in Andrews on November 24, 1923, a son of the late Albert Henry Payne and Lillian Gertrude Nesmith Payne. He was raised in Andrews and attended local schools. Mr. Payne was a long-time member of the Boy Scouts and served in World War II. He retired after 20 years of employment with Oneita Industries. Mr. Payne was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are: a sister, Bessie Hilliard of Andrews; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Payne was predeceased by: two brothers, Robert Payne and Walter Payne; and a sister, Ethel Tobin. Graveside services will be on Friday afternoon, December 24, 2010, at Andrews Memorial Cemetery at two o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Donald P. Sapp and the Rev. W. Clinton Stockton. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, December 24, 2010, at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from one until two o'clock.
