Obituary

Pawleys Island, S.C.: Alfred Magruder Dillard, Jr., 77, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Dillard was born in Richmond, Va. on April 3, 1938, a son of the late Alfred Magruder Dillard, Sr. and Margaret Leonard Dillard. Mac was a graduate of Camden High School in 1956 and Wofford College in 1965. He served in Germany with the Army from 1958 until 1961. Mac was a retired employee of DuPont. Mac was a talented wood worker and craftsman. Among other things, he renovated a home, built beautiful furniture, and made an intricate, functioning dollhouse for his three daughters. He was known for his quick wit and his easy way of making friends. Mac was extremely proud of his three girls and his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mac was predeceased by his sister, Peggy Dillard. Surviving are: three daughters, Laura Dillard Paasch (Tim) of Glen Allen, Va., Lisa Dillard Meares (Lee) and Margaret "Meg" Dillard Edmunds (Tom), both of Columbia: eight grandchildren; Erin Elizabeth, Kathryn Dillard, and William Mason Paasch, Thomas Bryant, III, Margaret Briggs, and Anne Ashe Edmunds, and Walter Lee and Sallie Meriwether Meares; and the mother of his children, Joan Pittman Dillard of Camden. Private graveside services will be Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at All Saints Church Cemetery at Pawleys Island. Officiating will be Pastor Henry M. Moody, Jr. Memorial services will be two o'clock Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Grace Episcopal Church in Camden, S.C. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles Davis, Sr. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Camden in Richardson Hall. Sign a guest book at www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
