IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alicia Joyce
Camlin
July 6, 1943 – December 12, 2024
Savannah, Georgia ~
Alicia Joyce Camlin, a long-time resident of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, at the age of 81.
Born on July 6, 1943, in Charleston, South Carolina, Alicia was a woman of boundless curiosity, bravery and creativity. She was an artist, a genealogist, a history buff, a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting and researching her family tree.
At the young age of 21, She bravely traveled for 21 days by boat, with her baby boy and husband to an island called, The Philippines, where her husband (Efren, also known as Bobby) was from. This beautiful and amazing journey to the other side of the globe opened her eyes to a new world of curiosities, such as geography, history, and world events. She later became passionate about her heritage, allowing her to trace it back to an English jurist (lawyer) to Queen Elizabeth in 1579. She kept solid records of this, as proof and proudly shared it with her family.
Efren and her divorced in the mid 1970's. Alicia then married her second husband Gene Russell. They later divorced but remained good friends up until her death.
Alicia's life revolved around her work as a Home Health Nurse. She valued the time spent talking and writing to her family and friends. She was very fond of her cat and companion, Holly.
Alicia is survived by her brother, Larry Camlin; her children Sonny Sablan, Suzanne Sablan, and Joe Sablan; her grandchildren, Mahealani Sablan, Malia Sablan, Keiana Andino, Makoa Sablan, Danielle Praturlon, Suzette Jackson, Sydney Korndorfer, Noah Korndorfer, James Sablan, Jalen Sablan; great-grandchildren, Kaimana Sablan, Holly Praturlon and Nora Jackson.
Alicia's legacy is one of love, bravery, creativity, and an enduring connection to her roots. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the memories and stories she leaves behind.
A graveside service to honor Alicia's life will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Harmony Cemetery, 958 Wheeler Rd, Andrews, South Carolina. Family and friends are invited to attend the service, and we will gather afterward to celebrate her remarkable life together. The gathering location will be determined.
The Downtown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
