Pawley's Island:
Allen Wilder Kemp, 102, formerly of Charlotte, died on February 3, 2007, at the Lakes at Litchfield. He lived in retirement at Litchfield Beach for the past twenty years.
Allen graduated in 1927 from N. C. State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for 42 years at Duke Power Company before retiring in 1965. For several years, he taught engineering courses both at Central Piedmont Community College and at N. C. State University. He was a life member of the Charlotte Engineers Club. As a great admirer of the camellia plant, he was a member of the Charlotte Camellia Society and the American Camellia Society.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Charlotte and associate member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Litchfield Country Club.
Allen was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Travis Kemp and Adeline Anderson Cowart Kemp, his second wife, plus his granddaughter, Dianna Davis Rawleigh and grandson, Kemp Winston Davis.
Surviving are: his daughter, Anne Kemp Davis of Lake Wylie; his step daughter, Dinah Cowart Dunn of Charlotte; grandchildren, James Davis, Patricia Hunter and Margie Davis Lowery; and three step grandchildren; a sister, Edith Kemp Frisbie of Louisburg, N. C.; brothers, Herman C. Kemp and Toliver T. Kemp, both of Louisburg, N. C.
In lieu of Flowers, memorials can be sent to Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
A memorial service will be held at the Forest Lawn West Cemetery Chapel, 4601 Freedom Drive, on February 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM with The Reverend Dr. W. Carter Lofton officiating.
