Obituary

Woodland Hills, Utah: Allene Moore Scurry DeBell, 95, formerly of Georgetown, SC passed away on Friday, June 22, 2007 in Woodland Hills. Mrs. DeBell was born February 18, 1912 in Georgetown to parents Minnie Allene Moore Scurry and John James Scurry. She taught school for 40 years, retiring from the Dale City, VA Schools in 1974, after which she moved "home" to Georgetown. Mrs. DeBell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served as Relief Society Secretary, Relief Society Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, and Visiting Teacher. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Georgetown Garden Club, the Three Rivers Genealogical Society, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Moose Club. Mrs. DeBell served as Secretary for the Georgetown County Council on Ageing. Mrs. DeBell had a life long love of learning and of sharing what she learned. She loved her family and friends, loved to travel, enjoyed gardening, genealogy research, reading, and playing bridge with her friends. Mrs. DeBell will be sorely missed by all. She is preceded in death by: a sister, Vivian Lola Scurry Dickert Prehoda; a brother, John James Scurry, Jr.; and husbands, Edgar White Mease and John D. DeBell. Surviving are: a daughter, Vivian Allene Mease German of Woodland Hills, UT, a granddaughter, Melonie Lyn German Semadeni of Salem, UT; a grandson, Quinton Eugene German, Jr. of Centennial, CO; a great-granddaughter, Maren Olivia German of Centennial, CO; a nephew, John James Scurry III of Sumter, SC; a niece, Janet Leggette Klee of Surfside Beach, SC; two great-nephews, John James Scurry IV and Grant Scurry; and a great-niece, Courtney Klee. Funeral services and burial will be held at three o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 1, 2007, at the graveside in Elmwood Cemetery in Georgetown, SC. Sign a guest book at www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
