Georgetown:
Alma Smith Kizer, 88, widow of Emory Drury Kizer, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Kizer was born in Andrews on February 16, 1917, a daughter of the late Rev. James Luther Smith and Minnie Barwick Smith. She was a graduate of Andrews High School and attended a community college in Charlotte, N. C. Mrs. Kizer retired from the N. C. Dept. of Rehabilitation. She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the Loula Ford Circle of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Kizer was dearly loved. She was known to her family as Mama, Mom, Amie, and Aye. She will be remembered by all as a gentle soul with a kind and loving spirit. Mr. Kizer loved her family and friends with her whole heart and always showered them with encouraging words and compliments. Everyone felt special when they were around her. Mrs. Kizer passed on her strong faith in God to her children and always persevered through many hard situations with a thankful heart.
Survivors include: two daughters, Libby K. Dews and her husband Kenny of Greenville, N. C. and Debbie K. Robertson and her husband Richard of Charlotte, N. C.; a son, Luke Smith and his wife Darrah of Greenville, S. C.; a sister, Esther S. Avant of Georgetown; seven grandchildren, Ashley Dews of Greenville, N. C, Kristi D. Dale and her husband Alex of Wilmington, N. C., Lee Robertson of Durham, N. C., Meredith Robertson of Raleigh, N. C., Mary Elizabeth Robertson of Charlotte, N. C., and Tyler Smith and Stephanie Smith, both of Greenville, S. C.
Mrs. Kizer was predeceased by four brothers, W. Ivan Smith, A. Woodrow Smith, J. L. Smith, and Herman E. Smith.
The family wishes to send special thanks to Mrs. Kizer's caregivers, Margie Pope, Evelyn Carter, Clara Gainey, and Teresa Lee. They would also like to thank Jackie McCants and the staff of the Lafayette Restaurant, the staff at George's Restaurant, Clara Moore, and Alice Watson for all the special things they did for Mrs. Kizer.
Funeral services will be three o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 27, 2005, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery in Andrews.
