Greenville: Alyce Valaer Wood, wife of John Beale Wood, Sr., died Tuesday, November 11, 2012. Born in Atlanta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Paul V. Valaer and Lanius Massey Valaer. Alyce was a homemaker and enjoyed playing golf, tennis and bridge. She attended Guilford College and was a member of Christ the King, Waccamaw in Pawleys Island. She was also a member of the Thursday Club and The Georgetown Water Color Society. Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, son, John Beale Wood, Jr; daughter, Martha Wood McKissick and her husband Ellison Smyth McKissick III; grandchildren, John Beale Wood, III, William Harrison Wood, Elizabeth Blair Wood, all of Greenville, Ellison Smyth McKissick IV, of NY, NY, Hollis Valaer McKissick and Caroline Parker McKissick all of Greenville. A family graveside service will be held in All Saints Parish, Waccamaw Cemetery, Pawleys Island, South Carolina at three o'clock Thursday afternoon, Decembe 13, 2012. The family will receive friends at the home of Martha and Smyth McKissick from 4:00pm until 6pm on Wednesday, December 12, 2012.
