Annie Vivian Shokes Richburg, 95, widow of Oscar Richburg, Jr., died Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at her residence.
Mrs. Richburg was born in Georgetown on July 6, 1927, a daughter of the late Warren J. Shokes and Daisy June Morgan Shokes.
Mrs. Richburg grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School. She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and served in many capacities at the church: she was a church greeter, she directed many weddings, and served on the Board of Methodist Manor in Florence. Mrs. Richburg was known for many years as the Holiday Tours Director of South Carolina. Her contributions to Georgetown, to name a few were: Administrative Assistant for the Georgetown County School District, manager of Western Union, and Assistant Probate Judge. Vivian and Oscar were married for seventy-four years until his death a month ago. She was a wonderful and devoted Christian and served her God through the wonderful work at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and her community. She will surely be missed by many.
In addition to her husband of Georgetown, Mrs. Richburg is predeceased by three brothers; Hollie, James and David Shokes, and two sisters; Mettie S. Holmes and Louise S. Thomas.
Mrs. Richburg is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be eleven o'clock Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Entombment will follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Church Parlor from ten until eleven.
