Anthony "Tony" Quentin Devereux, 87, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Devereux was born in Utica, N.Y. on June 19, 1929, a son of the late Nicholas Edward Devereux and Anne Madeline Quinlan Devereux. He grew up in Utica and was a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. Mr. Devereux served in the United States Army. He worked as a lawyer with the family business, Oneita Knitting Mills in Andrews, for twenty-five years.
Mr. Devereux was a noted historian and published author. He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Devereux was a communicant of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Devereux was predeceased by: two brothers, Nicholas Edward Devereux and Robert Dolbeare Devereux; a sister, Margaret Devereux Halberstadt; and a nephew Peter Devereux Halberstadt.
He leaves behind eight nieces and nephews, and his favorite sister-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at eleven o'clock. Officiating will be The Rev. Paul MacNeil. Inurnment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica at the convenience of the family.
