Georgetown:
Arthur Joseph, 90, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Joseph was born in Georgetown on June 1, 1913, a son of the late Nicholas Raad Joseph and Aneesie Nahra Joseph. He was a lifetime resident of Georgetown, graduated from Winyah High School, and attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Joseph served in the Army during World War II. He was a retail merchant for many years and retired after a number of years as the Georgetown County Veterans Affairs Service Officer.
Mr. Joseph was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6444 and American Legion Post #114. Mr. Joseph was a member of the U.S.C. Gamecock Club and avid Gamecock supporter and fan. He was also an avid golfer.
Surviving are: his wife, Bertha "Bert" Carter Joseph of Georgetown; two sons, Nicholas R. Joseph of Wilmington, N. C. and Carter Joseph of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Joye Ann J. Deane and her husband Dennis of Raleigh, N. C. and Victoria J. Meredith and her husband Allen of Spanish Fort, Ala.; and five grandchildren; Virginia Brook Carter, Allen Meredith, Jr. and Arthur Joseph Meredith, all of Spanish Fort, Ala., Margaret Butler Deane of Raleigh, N. C., and Nicholas Arthur Joseph of Wilmington, N. C.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be eleven o'clock Tuesday morning, May 18, 2004, at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald J. Farrell. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from six until eight Monday evening, May 17, 2004 followed by a Rosary Service at eight.
