Pawleys Island:
Audrey Doris Rice, beloved wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, counselor, confidante, mentor, friend. Lovingly married to her soul mate of sixty years, Walter, Audrey quietly went home to her Lord and Savior on March 14, 2011 surrounded by her family.
After attending Gordon Bible College where she met her husband, Walter, Audrey served as a pastor's wife, women's group leader and Sunday school teacher. Having a special place in her heart for oppressed women and children; Audrey believed passionately in God's redeeming grace and unconditional love and supported the educational and financial needs of these young women and children through the ministries of both World Vision and Samaritan's Purse.
Audrey Doris Jersey Rice was born to Alice and William Jersey on April 16, 1930 in West Hempstead, New York. Audrey is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Walter Earl Rice, her daughter, Linda Rice Chase of Port Jefferson and two grandchildren, Justin Adam Chase of New York City, New York and Alexandra Lauren Chase of Boston, Massachusetts; and her son and daughter-in-law Kenneth Wayne Rice and Lorraine Rice of Belle Terre and New York City, New York as well as four step-grandchildren, Stephen, Laura, Andrew and Gregory Cooper. Audrey is also survived by her brother, William C. Jersey of Lambertville, New Jersey and her sister, Janet Myles of Fort Myers, Florida as well as 11 nephews and nieces.
Relocating from Port Jefferson, New York in 1991, Audrey and Walter have been long time members in the Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church, active in evangelistic, educational and most recently the newly created Bread of Life Kitchen Ministry.
Audrey was never too busy to stop and greet a newcomer, send a card of encouragement or pray with and for them. Audrey truly is Bound for Glory.
Visitation for family and friends will be at the Mayer Funeral Home, 222 St. James Street, Georgetown, South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon, March 16, 2011 (843-546-4184)from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Audrey's Life will be on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 10:00 am in Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church with the Service of Christian Burial to follow at the Pawleys Island Presbyterian Cemetery with Reverend Frank Holsclaw officiating.
