Barry Mitchell
Johnson
Nov 1, 1964 — Sep 10, 2026
Summerville, SC
Barry Mitchell Johnson, of Summerville, South Carolina, went home to be with his Lord peacefully with his beloved wife at his side on September 10, 2026, after a long battle with illness. He was born on November 1, 1964, in Georgetown, South Carolina, to Ivan Earl Johnson and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson.
A lifelong resident of the Lowcountry, Barry grew up with a deep appreciation for the water and hard work. He dedicated his professional life to working as a skilled naval shipyard welder, where his craftsmanship and strong work ethic were highly respected. A master of his trade, he earned his specialized naval certifications to build parts for the new nuclear submarines for the United States Navy.
In August 2014, Barry married his wife, Kathleen. Together, they blended a family, shared many blessed times together on the water, and faced life’s many challenges hand-in-hand, putting their trust in God, and attended Knightsville Baptist Church in Summerville.
While he took great pride in his career, the great passion of Barry's life was commercial fishing. On weekends, he could always be found out on the water shrimping or clamming. The ocean was his sanctuary, and his passion for fishing brought an unmatched joy, peace, and fulfillment to his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Johnson; his children, Samantha of Nebraska, Katie (Jeremy) of Summerville, Hannah of Summerville, Madeline of Summerville, Ted of North Carolina, and Deborah Grace of Huger, South Carolina; his two granddaughters, Aiyana and Abigail of Summerville; and his brother and best friend, Jeff Johnson, and brothers Casey Johnson and Jason Johnson, all of Georgetown, South Carolina. He will be greatly missed by his family, his church family, friends, and all who knew him, but are comforted to know he is with his Lord. John 6:37
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson; his son, Brandon; his brothers, Stanley, Kelvin, and Darin; and his sister, Angie.
Funeral services are currently pending.
The Maryville Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home is assisting the family.
