Georgetown: Benjamin Bourne "BB" Smith, 86, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Mr. Smith was born in Georgetown on August 13, 1927, a son of the late John Benjamin Smith and Ellen Timmons Smith. He graduated from Andrews High School and served in the US Army during World War II. Mr. Smith owned and operated BB Smith's Grocery until his retirement. Mr. Smith was a Mason and Shriner. He was a member of Sampit United Methodist Church, where he was a former chairman of the cemetery committee. Surviving are: two nieces, Ellen Faye Pickarella (Mike) of Riegelwood, NC and Terry Welch of Georgetown; a nephew, Sidney B. Thomas, Jr. (Wilhelmina) of Riegelwood, NC; two great-nephews; a great-niece; two great-great-nephews; and a special friend, Maxine Hughes of Georgetown. Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Sampit United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. John Williams, Jr. Burial will follow in the churchyard.
