Obituary

Georgetown: Bernard Mellville Meany, 90, died on October 26, 2009 at Prince George Health Care Center. Mr. Meany was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on May 2, 1919, the son of Bernard A. Meany and Clara Mitchell Meany. He married Lucille Meagher on September 13, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Mr. Meany enlisted in the U. S. Navy in December 1941. He was Chief Storekeeper on the U. S. S. Chemung at the time of his discharge in October 1945. Mr. Meany retired from John Morrell and Co. in Sioux Falls, S. D. in 1962 after 30 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was the Corporate Auto Control Manager. Mr. Meany began a second career as the Accounts Receivable Manager for Williams Insurance in Sioux Falls, S. D. He remained in that position for 20+ years, retiring in 2004, when he and Lucille moved to Georgetown. Mr. Meany was a life-long member of the Elks Club and a member of Duncan Methodist Church. He is survived by; his wife, Lucille of Georgetown; a daughter, Pam Toemmes and her husband Richard of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Sarah M. (Missy) Toemmes and Michael Toemmes and his wife Ranie all of Georgetown; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth (Ellie) and Anna of Georgetown; a sister, Dorothy Hale of Missoula, MT; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Barnes of Ottumwa, IA and Jeanne Ellis of Oraville, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2009 at four o'clock at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. G. Edward Usher.
