Bertie Maude Clardy Sylvester Peace Scragg, 102, died peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2017.
Born in Andrews on August 19, 1914, she was the only daughter of Henry Stacy and Bertie Susannah Stalvey Clardy. She was preceded by her brothers Herman Stacy Clardy (Mary Virginia Cox) and Karl Menick Clardy. She is survived: by her daughter, Suzanna Sylvester Thomas (John); and three granddaughters, Daphnie Craig Thomas Farmer (Michael), Janese Suzanne Thomas and Kimberly Diane Thomas-Metts (Kirt). She has five great grandchildren that she cherished deeply, Douglas Michael Farmer, Rachel Dyanne Farmer, Samantha Carolina Buzzard, Ashley Susannah Metts and Kaitlyn Diane Metts.
Bertie Maude was married three times to Mark Edwin Sylvester, William Fitzhugh Peace and George William Scragg. Bertie Maude loved life and had a life filled with many joys and blessings. After retirement from the Farmers Home Administration, Bertie Maude spent her time traveling and spending her time with so many friends and family.
She spent many beautiful days on Pawleys Island, SC, where she lived for many years upon moving to Gilbert, SC with her Daughter, Suzanna. Bertie Maude was surrounded with so many people who gave her love and dedication in the last three years of her life. Her Granddaughter Kimberly Thomas-Metts, dedicated her life to assuring the best care of her Grandmother. They shared a bond that will never be broken. She was also surrounded by several other caregivers that gave her family peace of mind of their wonderful care. Her Daughter, Suzanna and her granddaughter Kimberly would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care, especially, Jasmine, Paula and Tracy who helped them through the toughest days by giving Bertie Maude the absolute peaceful care.
Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, March 20, 2017, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews. Officiating will be the Rev. Gordon Timmons. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery in Andrews. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Monday from 10 until 11 am.
