Betty Lou Harrelson, 81, wife of Vietnam veteran James Anderson Harrelson departed this life peacefully Monday, June 7, 2021 at home surrounded by family.
James and Betty were married on January 15, 1966 and celebrated 55 years together. Betty was born in Georgetown, S.C. October 22, 1939. She was the oldest child of Alphonse Glonie Wewers Sr. and Evelyn Vanderbilt Wewers. She loved being outdoors working in the flower gardens, traveling, camping, and spending time with family and friends. Her endless dedication in keeping faith in God was pronounced not only to her family, but also to everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harrelson was pre-deceased by: her two younger sisters, Barbara Eileen Wewers and Carolyn Teresa Wewers.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her two sons, Cecil Sherman Baxley Jr. (Freda) of Georgetown and James Anderson Harrelson Jr. (Camille) of Glens Falls N.Y; one daughter, Sandra Diane Palmer (Roy) of N. Charleston; sister, Patricia Ann Barnes (Orin) of Andrews; brother, Alphonse Glonie Wewers Jr. (Patty) of Georgetown; grandchildren, Cecil Sherman Baxley III (Heather) of Georgetown, Nicholas Adam Baxley of Georgetown, Benjamin Anderson Harrelson of Glens Falls N.Y., and Ivan Eli Gamelin of Glens Falls N.Y.; Great grandchildren, Tyler Adam Baxley (Hannah) of Georgetown and Sherman Hunter Baxley of Georgetown; 3 nieces; 2 nephews; 9 great nieces; 6 great nephews; 6 great-great nieces; and 11 great great nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, June 10, 2021, in Saint Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church at two o'clock PM. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from five until seven o'clock PM.
