Georgetown: Betty Bruns McConnell died Monday, January 28, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mrs. McConnell was born in Columbia, a daughter of the late Harrell Christol Bruns and Effie Cannon Bruns Thatcher. She grew up in Columbia and Georgetown, was a graduate of Winyah High School, and attended business school in Georgetown. Mrs. McConnell worked for a time as an operator for the old Seacoast Telephone Co. in Georgetown. She was formerly very active in charity work and campaigned for many charities including the National Kidney Foundation. Memorial services will be private. Surviving are: her husband of fifty-nine years, Charlie A. McConnell of Georgetown; a daughter, Trudy McConnell Bazemore and her husband Jay of Georgetown; a first cousin, Jack Blount and his wife Emily of Georgetown; and several other cousins.
