Senior Master Sergeant Retired Billy J. Yates, 86, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in Jacksonville, FL. Born on February 16, 1937 in Hickman Kentucky, he was the son of the late Rosie Callison and the late Joseph Yates. He joined the US Air Force in June 1954 serving his country for 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked in the telecommunications industry then retired from the State of Florida Public Service Commission. Billy obtained a B.S. in 1972 from the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

Billy was preceded in death by the love of his life, Catherine Howard Yates. He is survived by his sons, Stephen L. Yates (Kathy) of Newland, NC, Arthur L. Yates (Tracy) of Jacksonville, FL, and Michael G. Yates of Springhill, FL. He has three grandchildren, Chad Yates and Shannon Yates, both of Jacksonville, FL, and Nathan Nelson of Springhill, FL. Billy's siblings are Lou Hoquard of Fairhope, AL, Gene R. Yates of Rapid City, SD, and George M. Yates of Hickman, KY. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
