Garden City Beach:
Burl Thomas Walters, Sr., 74, died Thursday, December 23, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Walters was born in Hartwell, Ga. on May 13, 1930, a son of the late Lewis Burl Walters and Bessie Hall Walters. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Walters was a retired furniture dealer and insurance agent. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach. Mr. Walters was also a former member, past president, and Lion of the Year for 1995 of the Surfside-South Strand Lions Club.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-two years, Emily Williams Walters of Garden City Beach, four sons, Burl T. "Tom" Walters, Jr. of Garden City Beach, Barry D. Walters and his wife Mary of Alexandria, Va., Alan W. Walters and his wife Susan of Georgetown, and David S. Walters and his wife Leighann of Wilmington, N. C.; a brother, Roy D. Walters of Fitzgerald, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be one-thirty o'clock Monday afternoon, December 27, 2004 at First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach. Officiating will be the Rev. David W. Pohto. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Annex in Georgetown.
