IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carlisle "Rocky" Mills
Nelson
November 23, 1956 – June 25, 2024
Myrtle Beach ~
Carlisle "Rocky" Mills Nelson, 67, husband of Renee Skipper Nelson, passed away peacefully at their home surrounded by Renee, daughter Heather, and son-in-law Travis on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Born in Columbia, SC, Rocky was the son of Lindsay Rudolph Nelson and Mary Alice (Mangum) Nelson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Henrietta Mangum
.
From a very young age, Rocky developed his well-known work ethic while serving at the Rice Planters Restaurant in Myrtle Beach. He graduated from Myrtle Beach High in 1975 and then found himself moving to Boulder, CO where he spent a year working as a lineman for the state. He eventually returned to attend Emmanual College where he played baseball and basketball. And this is where he met the love of his life, Renee.
As an avid outdoorsman, Rocky found the place of his dreams in a quiet spot in Suttons community, near Andrews, SC. He kept it close to his heart and desired to see it flourish. In his spare time, he could be found hunting, fishing, cooking, or just enjoying the peaceful beauty of this beloved farm.
Rocky was a hard worker who found joy in a job well done. He became a professional welder in 1978, and after many years of honing his skills, he formed Southern Pride Mill Services and Fabricators. Rocky grew SPMS into one of the nation's most sought-after steel and asphalt contractors.
In addition to his wife and parents, Rocky is survived by a daughter, Heather Nelson, and son-in-law Travis Pandiani, a grandchild, Braxton Pandiani, siblings, Jay Nelson and Rudy Nelson, mother-in-law, Mary "Ms. Bill" Skipper, brother-in-law, Robin E Skipper (Debbie), sister-in-law, Rhonda S Perry (Tony), nieces and nephews, Krista Holder (Zach), Samantha Nelson, Anthony Perry (Amy), Austin Perry (Courtney), Jeanne-Marie Bolin (Richard), Abigail Perry (Brian Pugliese), Jessica Quarles (Trey), and a number of great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers that helped Rocky in recent years.
