Georgetown:
Carlos R. Long, 80, passed away Friday, November 4, 2016, at Tidelands Community Hospice in Georgetown.
Mr. Long was born August 19, 1936, in Panama City, FL to the late Carl and Eva Long. The family moved to Georgetown, SC for the construction of the IP Mill and then to Springhill, LA for the construction of the IP Mill there. When the construction of the Springhill Mill was completed, they returned to Georgetown. Carlos attended school in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School in 1954. He started to work for IP on the extra board. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. After his discharge, he met and married Shirley Jean Norris from Erwin, NC. Mr. Long started to work with the Construction Division of International Paper Company and worked at the majority of the operating paper mills until his retirement in 1991. He and Shirley split time living in Uncertain, TX and Georgetown. Carlos was a lifelong member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: his wife Shirley of 56 years, two sons, Carlos R. Long, Jr. (Marlene) of Oklahoma; and Mark Monroe Long of Oregon; five grandchildren, Andrew (Maddie), Anna (John), Alix (Seth), Austin and Addison; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Charlie both of Oklahoma.
Memorial Services will be at eleven o'clock Monday morning, November 7, 2016, at Duncan United Memorial Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Church Family Life Center.
