Obituary

Georgetown, SC

Carolyn Gaddy Camlin, 89, widow of Wade Overton Camlin III, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, at Tidelands Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born August 29, 1934, in Lake City, SC, the daughter of the late Clifford Frederick Gaddy and May Belle Johnson Gaddy.

Mrs. Camlin graduated from Columbia College with a bachelor's degree in English and carried her love for her major throughout her life. She taught school for a couple of years before leaving her teaching position to focus on raising her children. After her childrearing years, she spent her time managing The Bath Etc. Shoppe, first in Pawleys Island, and later on Front Street. She was a long-time member of the Lydia Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Georgetown, Winyah Indigo Society, and was a founding member of the Georgetown Watercolor Society.

Mrs. Camlin was a lady of many talents. Among them were watercolor painting, knitting, crafting, gardening, crocheting and needlepoint. She also designed the menu for her father and mother-in-laws' seafood restaurant. She had a great love for meeting and getting to know people wherever she went, and sharing about them with her family. She was known for her big celebrations at her beach house on Pawleys Island where she loved cooking and hosting for family and friends every year! And she had a lifetime love of music and dancing. Her favorite dance was the beach music "shag" which she enjoyed for many years with the love of her life, Wade. We believe there is probably a dance going on in Heaven right now!

Survivors include her daughter, Sarah Daniel of Georgetown; a son, Charles Camlin of Texas; daughters-in-law Brett Camlin of Texas and Theresa Camlin of Moncks Corner; 7 grandchildren-Hannah, Alyssa, Kal, Dell, Halli, Paige and Charles Jr. (Cam); 8 great grandchildren-McKenna, Ellie, Wesley, Addi, Bennett, Charley, Luke and Myles; and many beloved cousins. She also had a faithful, furry companion, Livia, who is missing her too.

In addition to her husband, parents, two brothers Clifford and Andrew, she was preceded in death by her son, Wade Overton Camlin, IV.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 11 at First Baptist Church of Georgetown, with Dr. Ted Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, May 10 at First Baptist Church of Georgetown.
