Cassie Maynard Smith

Cassie Cooke Maynard Smith, age 70, of Georgetown, South Carolina, died peacefully at home on August 5th, 2026.

She was born August 16th, 1955, in Georgetown, a daughter of James Thomas Maynard and Helen Betts Maynard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dwight Fairfax Betts and Dessie Moore Wellons Betts, Edward Walker Maynard, and Cassie Cooke Maynard.

Cassie successfully accomplished her main goals in life; to be a good Christian, mother, supportive wife, and an educator.

At age 13 her family acquired and moved to Hopsewee Plantation. She started her teaching career at an early age leading tours of the Historic Plantation. She later earned a degree in Elementary Education and a lifetime teaching certificate from Lamar University, having also attended the College of Charleston School of Education after graduating from Winyah Academy. She spent many years teaching and tutoring in the Public Elementary School System.

Cassie grew up in Prince George Winyah Church where she was Baptized, Confirmed, Married, and served as Youth Group Leader.

Cassie is survived by her loving husband, Jeffrey Baydon Smith of the home; her children, Emmaly Hebdige Smith Rogalski (Kyle Molyneaux Rogalski), Benjamin Barton Smith, and Helen Grace Smith (Kevin Ludlow); grandchildren, Lillian Grace Rogalski and Violet Emmaly Ludlow; siblings, James Barry Maynard (Emmaly Ivey Maynard) and Helen Betts Maynard Nixon (Roy Clifford Nixon); and lifelong friend, Deborah Smith.

Thank you to all friends and to the Home Health and Hospice nurses for all the care and support.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August  16, 2026 in Prince George Winyah Church, 300 Broad St, Georgetown, followed by a ground burial in the church cemetery.

Cassie was truly a blessing, well loved by all and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Prince George Church Preservation Fund https://onrealm.org/pgwinyah/-/form/give/now.
