Catherine Cumbie Ward, 86, widow of the late Gene Ward, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at her home in Pawleys Island. Born in Williamsburg County, she was the daughter of the late George Hanford Cumbie and Bernice Poston Cumbie.

Catherine, alongside her husband Gene, was the longtime owners and operators of Gene Ward’s Country Store in Georgetown, where they built lasting relationships within the community.

She is survived by her children, Steven  (Dee), Marsha, and Marie; her sisters, Inez and Freda; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses of Amedisys, and Becky, NP for all their compassionate care and support.

Entombment will be private at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
