IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cathy Elaine
Reed
March 8, 1955 – May 14, 2024
Cathy Elaine Reed, 69, of Myrtle Beach SC died on May 14, 2024. Born on March 8, 1955, she was the daughter of Carlton and Nell Reed. She was predeceased in death by her parents, her brother Dell Reed, and nephew Alex Reed.
Cathy was a graduate of Winyah High school in Georgetown, and attended classes at USC before joining the Navy. She served overseas as well as in California before leaving service. After leaving the Navy, she worked in the telecommunications field as a sales technician. Upon retirement, Cathy moved from Charlotte, NC back to her coastal roots, settling in Myrtle Beach. There she was able to indulge her love of the ocean with pier fishing, beach walking, and enjoying the salt air.
As the oldest of 5, Cathy had the responsibility of keeping her siblings out of trouble - except when she was the one getting them into it! She shared a unique bond with each of them, and gave them many happy memories to cherish.
Cathy was a talented athlete. While in school, she played softball, basketball, and ran track. She won multiple team awards, as well as individual state awards for her prowess.
Her athleticism coupled with her sense of adventure as she reached adulthood, and she became an avid white water rafter, scuba diver, and skier, on both snow and water.
She traveled to many different places, both with family and with friends. She once famously (at least it's famous within the family) got lost in Italy.
Cathy was known for her generous heart and helpful nature. She loved her family, and was always the first to lend a helping hand, or offer to organize a gathering. Her loyal and loving personality will be deeply missed.
Cathy is survived by sister Cheryl Johnson, of Myrtle Beach, sister Karen Casas (Carlos) of Charlotte, and brother Kevin Reed (Liz) of Georgetown. She also leaves behind a nephew, Captain Matthew Holland (USAF), (Mary Caroline) of Goldsboro NC, nieces, Melissa Reed Menefee (Raymond) of Myrtle Beach, Donna Reed Marlow (Allen) of Johnsonville, Kathryn Shorr Johnson of Raleigh, and Emily Reed (Brian) of Austell GA. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home, 222 St. James Street, Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate
