Cecilia "Celia" Lockwood McDonald, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet. She was born in Charleston on November 9, 1927 to the late James Jervey Lockwood and Lucy Rabb Lockwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, WalBern McDonald of Georgetown, whom she married in 1951.
Celia graduated from Memminger High School in Charleston in 1946 and received her nursing degree from St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing in 1950. She completed additional training in Washington, DC at St. Elizabeth's Psychiatric Hospital and Children's Hospital, and received her Registered Nurse certificate in 1951. Celia began her nursing career at Georgetown Memorial Hospital and later worked in the practices of Dr. Robert Quinn and Dr. Robert Lumpkin until her retirement in 1963.
Celia loved her children and never passed a child she didn't hug. She was a great mother to all of her children's friends. Celia loved to laugh and tell stories and always served them some of their favorite snacks. She had a compassion for all animals and their care.
Celia is survived by her two children, Capers W. McDonald (Marion) and Rebecca L. McDonald; a brother, Robert H. Lockwood, III (Debi); and a grandson, Adam C. McDonald.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held at two o'clock on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Elmwood Cemetery. Officiating will be The Rev. Wil Keith.
