Georgetown:
Chandler "Chan" Matthewson Bush of 233 Broad Street in Georgetown was taken gently home by his Heavenly Father on June 28, 2006. He was surrounded at his residence by his wife, Barbara, dear friends, and his faithful dog companion.
He was predeceased by his mother, Jane Matthewson Bush and his father, Horace McMurtrie Bush.
He was born May 13, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts and earned an Engineering degree from Duke University, three Master's degrees, and a PhD in Engineering from UTA in Arlington, Texas.
He worked for many years at LTV Aerospace in Dallas, Texas. After retiring from LTV he started another career as a Professor of Systems Management at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, North Carolina. Finally, he and his wife discovered Georgetown in 1994 and felt they had finally come home.
He will be remembered as a devoted and loving family man and was always willing to help others. Until his illness he was a regular volunteer at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. He was an avid sailor and taught sailing in Arlington, Texas. He and Barbara sailed in the British Virgin Islands many times.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Connett Bush; his sister, Polly Bush LoPiccolo of Pomfret, Connecticut; his children, Mary Catherine Batlle, Amy Jean Bush, and Timothy McMurtrie Bush and three grandchildren, all of Arlington, Texas. He also leaves behind three step-children, Eric Breithaupt, Lisa Johnson, and Laurie Watts; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren, all of Fort Worth, Texas.
He was a devoted member of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church in Georgetown.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held July 7 at 10:00 AM at Prince George Church with a reception in the Parish Hall following his inurnment at Prince George Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested a donation in his memory to the Prince George Clock Fund, P.O. Box 674, Georgetown, SC 29442 or a charity of your choice.
