Mt. Pleasant:
Charles Edward Britton, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, SC formerly of Georgetown, SC passed away after an extended illness with his loving family by his side.
Charles (Charlie) was born March 29, 1934 in Meggett SC, the son of the late Lottie Powers Britton and William Joseph Britton. He graduated from Meggett High School in Rantowles, SC where he was an avid football and baseball player. He was recruited by a semi pro baseball team, Georgetown Athletics, to play as their left-handed pitcher. He was then hired by International Paper where he retired as a Maintenance Foreman after 42 years.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Roma Lee Terry Britton. They share a forever love story that is shown through her as she cared for him, fully devoted and full of love. He is also survived by his son who he was very proud of, Charles Edward Britton, Jr. (Karen) of Mt Pleasant, SC; Two granddaughters Kristin B. Riley (Dalton) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Sarah B. Hogan (Luke) of Johns Island, SC; Two great-granddaughters Preston Ann Hogan and Hattie June Riley, who brought him so much joy.
His surviving siblings are Lois Boyles of Winter Gardens, FL, Ann Dodd of Jacksonville, FL and Wilson Britton of Meggett, SC; a number of nephews and nieces; a special brother-in-law, Clyde Stevenson Terry and family of Mt. Pleasant; and sister-in-law Jean Gamble and family of Manning, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 12 o'clock on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial will follow at 3:30pm at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Garden, Mathis Ferry Rd. Mt. Pleasant, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 10:30 until 12 o'clock in the Church Parlor.
