Obituary

Georgetown: Charles Wallace Hicks, 94, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at the Medical University of S. C. Hospital in Charleston. Mr. Hicks was born in Paxville in Clarendon Co. on November 1, 1911, a son of the late Charles Wheeler Hicks and Evelyn Wallace Hicks. After graduating from high school, he served in the S. C. State Guard. Mr. Hicks retired from International Paper Co. in 1973 after 44 years of employment as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a former member of the Personnel and Benevolence Committee and had been secretary of the Jeffcoat Sunday School Class. Mr. Hicks was also a member of the Pine Tree Club, the Quarter Century Club, and a member of the Winyah Lodge # 40, Ancient Free Masons and in 1946 he was Master of the Lodge. He served on the Planning Commission for the City of Georgetown for 8 years. Mr. Hicks was predeceased by: his wife, Honor Mary Higgins Hicks; and a son, Charles Samuel Hicks. Surviving are: a daughter, Wallis Hicks Taylor and her husband Greg of Georgetown; a daughter-in-law, Raynelle Hicks Morris of Socastee; two brothers, Lewis E. Hicks and Murray C. Hicks both of Columbia; a sister, Mrs. H. W. (Dorothy) Dennis of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Mildred C. Higgins of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Ryan Hicks of Myrtle Beach, Brad Hicks of Socastee, Honor Taylor of Spartanburg, Betsi Taylor and Donald Taylor both of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be two o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 30, 2006, at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
