Georgetown:
Charles Henry Power, Sr., 85, died Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.
Mr. Power was born in Elberton, Ga. on November 13, 1919, a son of the late Charles Henry Power and Susan Hitchcock Power. He graduated in 1942 from Georgia Institute of Technology with a B. S. in Chemical Engineering and in 1977 from the University of S. C. with a Masters in Education. Mr. Power served in the Army during World War II as a master sergeant in the Chemical Corps.
Mr. Power was employed with International Paper Company as a chemical engineer from October 4, 1937 until his retirement January 1, 1990. During his employment with International he lived in Camden, Ark., Moss Point, Miss., Pine Bluff, Ark., Bastrop, La., and Georgetown since 1963. He was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Churches in all of the towns he lived in and a Sunday School Teacher, Children's' Church Teacher, Deacon, Elder, and Trustee in the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Mr. Power was a member of the Camden Zoning Review Board in Camden, TAPPI (Association of Professionals in Paper Industry) and he was a Licensed Professional Engineer for the State of Arkansas. He was given the title of "Fellow" in 1995 for voluntarily teaching members of school classes and other organizations about papermaking and conservation of forests.
Mr. Power was a member of the Quarter-Century Society and the Pine Tree Club of International Paper Company, Old Gold Class and President's Club of Georgia Tech Alumni Association, the Coastal Carolina Mensa Society, and Winyah Indigo Society.
Surviving are: his wife, Leeta Benson Power of Summerville; a daughter, Frances Power Rice and her husband Forrest of Warrenville, Il.; two sons, Charles H. Power, Jr. and his wife Alma and F. Benson Power and his wife Jean, all of Georgetown; a son-in-law, John Jenkins of Munford, Ala.; a sister, Betty Power Mitchell of Rushville, Neb.; a brother, Thomas Hitchcock Power and his wife Frances, of Oakdale, Ga.; four grandsons, Michael Perrin of Woodstock, Ga. and Andrew Jenkins of Munford, Ala., Charles H. Power, VI and Joshua D. Power, both of Georgetown; two granddaughters, Sharon Rice of Warrenville, Ill. and Emily Jenkins of Munford, Ala.
Mr. Power was predeceased by a daughter Carolyn Power Jenkins.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at three o'clock in the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Johanna W.Adams.
