IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles
Shimakonis
June 19, 1939 – March 3, 2026
Pawleys Island
Charles "Chuck" Shimakonis, 86, of Pawleys Island, SC died on March 3, 2026, at his home. Born June 19, 1939, in Pittston, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Nellie Shimakonis.
Chuck loved his family, golf, fishing, and everything Clemson. He spent many years with his Parkland Dog Fight golf group in Greenwood and had two holes in one in his life. Chuck and his son, Chris, played in the Father Son Golf Team Classic Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC for 7 years, winning the championship in 2006. Chuck never met a stranger and was forever the optimist for his golf game and fishing. Chuck enjoyed many days fishing off the North Causeway bridge in Pawleys Island and in Garden City with his grandsons. He loved all sports and never missed his grandson's games, home or away, and was a permanent Friday Night Lights fixture on the sidelines.
Chuck started his career in New York City in manufacturing and distribution with Palisade Manufacturing. He moved to SC as the shipping and warehouse manager for Richloom Home Fashions in Ware Shoals, SC. His career spanned 35 years in the industry. Chuck and Barbara retired to the coast in 1999 to be closer to their family.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Tribble Shimakonis of Pawleys Island, SC; his son, Christopher Charles Shimakonis and his wife Lisa, of Mt. Pleasant; two grandsons, Christopher Charles Shimakonis, Jr. and Chadwick Harrison Shimakonis, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a sister-in-law, Becky Tribble Greene of Folly Beach, SC; and one sister, Pauline Caton and her husband, Ron, and a nephew Ronnie Caton, Jr., all of Wallingford, CT.
The family expresses a special thank you to all of Chuck's doctors and nurses, and Agape Care of South Carolina.
A celebration of life for Chuck will be planned at a later time.
