Andrews:
C. Woodson Stamper, Jr., 75, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Mr. Stamper was born in Andrews on May 4, 1928, a son of the late Charles Woodson Stamper, Sr. and Ada Roberts Stamper. He grew up in Andrews and Georgetown and attended Georgia Military Academy, Presbyterian Jr. College, and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Stamper served in the S. C. Army National Guard and was a personal driver for Gen. Strom Thurmond.
Mr. Stamper retired as owner of Peoples Motor Sales, Inc. and was the former owner of Stamper Oil Co. and Winyah Auto Parts. He was currently the owner of Family Real Estate.
Mr. Stamper was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews. He was also a Fifty Year Mason and member of Harper Lodge #225, Ancient FreeMasons, Omar Shrine Temple of Charleston, and the Scottish Rite. He was an avid horseman.
Surviving are: his wife, Eleanor Sims Stamper of Andrews; two sons, Charles W. Stamper, III of Pawley's Island and Robert S. Stamper and his wife Shea of Andrews; a daughter, Marie A. Stamper of Andrews; and two grandchildren, Rob S. Stamper and Sarah A. Stamper, both of Andrews.
Mr. Stamper was predeceased by a sister, Rebecca L. Stamper.
Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon, May 4, 2004, at three o'clock at First Baptist Church of Andrews. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Sapp, the Rev. Dr. J. Kirk Lawton, the Rev. Hampton I. Perry, and the Rev. Robert Crawford. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Monday evening, May 3, 2004, from seven until nine.
