Obituary

Georgetown: Charles Wilson Stockly, 86, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mr. Stockly was born in Wilmington, Del. on April 19, 1924, a son of the late Ayres Jacques Stockly and Esther Rachel Wilson Stockly. He served in the Navy during World War II and was the former Financial Controller for Continental Can Co. Mr. Stockly served as a Vestryman, Sunday school teacher, Committee Chairman of Boyscout Troop #94, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Middletown, Del. He also served on the Vestry of Trinity Church in Elkton, Md. Mr. Stockly was a founding board member of Junior Achievement in Wilmington, Del. and was instrumental in establishing a 200 mile territorial fishing limit. In 1986, Mr. Stockly moved to Georgetown and pioneered the clean-up of Winyah Bay. He was the 1994 President of the Georgetown Sportfishing Assoc. and a board member for many years. Mr. Stockly worked with the Baruch Foundation and N.O.A. to guarantee traditional sport fishing at North Inlet. He was a founding board member of Helping Hands, a member of the Belle Isle Yacht Club, Vice-President of the Belle Isle Homeowner's Assoc., Treasurer of the Historic Ricefields Assoc., Inc. and loved hunting, fishing and golf. Mr. Stockly was a member of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Surviving are: his wife, Peggy D. Stockly of Georgetown; a brother, Ayres Holmes Stockly of Falmouth, Maine; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be on Friday morning, September 10, 2010, at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church at ten o'clock. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul C. Fuener and the Rt. Rev. C.
