Georgetown:
Clarence C. Owens, 72, died Friday, February 20, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Owens was born in Georgetown on August 21, 1931, a son of the late Gussie Wilfred Owens and Louise Scurry Owens. He grew up in Georgetown and graduated from Winyah High School. Mr. Owens served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1996 after forty-three years employment with International Paper Company. He was a member of Screven Baptist Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post #114, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 6444, and the Quarter Century Club.
Surviving are: his wife, Jeannie Poston Owens of Georgetown; two sons, David W. Owens and his wife Theresa of Chapin and Wayne R. Owens of Wilmington, N. C.; a brother, Donald A. Owens and his wife Brenda of Columbia; two grandchildren, Kimberly Owens and David H. Owens, both of Chapin; and a number of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be two o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 22, 2004, at Screven Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. R. Wayne Ellis. Entombment will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home Saturday evening, February 21, 2004, from six until eight.
