Colin "Pete" Peterson, 75, husband of Sandy Peterson, passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Colin left this world as he lived in it—with grace, faith, and a heart full of love for his community.
Born on March 23, 1949, in Peoria, IL, he was the son of the late Donald Grey Peterson, III and the late Shirley Ann Feeley. A devout member of St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church, where he was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from International Paper Woodlands/Forestry Management Department.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he lived it out daily through acts of kindness, compassion, and humility. Colin was a pillar of strength and generosity for both the community and his family. He dedicated much of his time to organizing and performing charitable work with the Knights of Columbus, always striving to make a difference in the lives of others. He was always volunteering to help with various charitable activities including Operation Hope, Log-a-Load for Kids, The Joy School, and The Special Olympics. Colin's selflessness touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on his community.
Survivors include his wife Sandy Peterson of 23 years, his children Nikki Bradley (Sean), Beth Peterson, Megan Hogan (Jeffrey), and Nicole Ranson; five grandchildren, Isabel Sanchez, Thomas Ariza, and Colleen, John, and Emma Bradley; and two brothers, Scott Peterson and Larry Maloney.
Colin was predeceased by his first wife Margo Peterson, his grandson Alexander Grey Sanchez, and his brothers Donald Peterson IV and Jerry Maloney.
Colin will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and service, and his memory will forever be a blessing.
A mass will be held for Colin at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with a reception to follow.
