Georgetown:
Daniel Henry Coutu, 94, widower of Kathryn Olivia Mercer Coutu, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mr. Coutu was born in West Warwick, RI on March 12, 1919, a son of the late Dieudonne Maxim Coutu and Agnes Nora Goozey Coutu. He grew up in Moosup, Conn. Mr. Coutu served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Georgetown. He later worked with the City of Georgetown Police Dept. for 19 years and was its first motorcycle police officer. Mr. Coutu also worked for several automobile dealerships. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Andrews and a former member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Georgetown. Mr. Coutu was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Surviving are: a son, Daniel P. Coutu (Tonda) of Salisbury, NC; a daughter, Kathy C. Hemingway (Sel) of Andrews; six grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Coutu was predeceased by a brother, Leo Paul Coutu.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock on Monday morning, June 24, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ben Gafford. Burial will follow in Oak Grove United Methodist Churchyard.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2013, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from three until five o'clock.
