Pawleys Island:
David Emerson Turner, 91, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet.
Mr. Turner was born at Centenary in Marion Co., a son of the late William Monroe Turner and Annie Eliza Lambert Turner. He grew up in Marion Co. and began his career with International Paper Co. in 1937 in Georgetown. Mr. Turner retired in 1982 after forty-five years with the company. He worked in a number of locations with International Paper Co. including Wooster, Ohio, Whippany, N. J., and the Corporate Office in New York City. Mr. Turner traveled extensively world wide for the company. Mr. Turner moved to Pawleys Island in 1980 from Morristown, N. J.
Mr. Turner was predeceased by: a son, David E. Turner; three brothers, Evan Turner, Jack Turner, and Willie Joe Turner; two sisters, Lydia Turner Altman and Eva Turner Rogers; and a grandchild, Laura Turner.
Surviving are: his wife Etta L. "Peggy" Gladson Turner of Pawleys Island; a son, Michael W. Turner of Pawleys Island; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Turner Naso of Venice, Fla.; a sister, Bonnie T. Altman of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Debbie Rudtke (Chris), Sue Turner, and Jill Turner; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Rudtke, Jonathan Rudtke, and Emily Turner.
Funeral services will be one o'clock Saturday afternoon, August 15, 2009, at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank S. Holsclaw. Burial will follow in Sampit United Methodist Cemetery in the Sampit community of Georgetown Co.
