IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dennis L
Babich
December 20, 1946 – August 31, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis L. Babich, 77, announces his passing on Aug. 31, 2024. A long-time resident of Folly Island, SC, and most recently, Georgetown, SC, Dennis grew up in the Toledo, Ohio, area. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Lorelie Babich, and the oldest of six siblings. He attended St. Francis DeSales High School in Toledo, and the University of Toledo.
Left to cherish his memory are Dennis' beloved wife, Crystal, his siblings, Calvin (Mary Ellen) Babich, Kathleen (Mike) Connell, Fran (Bob) Righi, Steve (Stacey) Babich, and Angela (Marty) Meredith. Also surviving are sons Benjamin Babich and Rhys Babich, stepdaughter Jennifer Walker, and many nieces and nephews. He will also be dearly missed by many friends and fishing, oystering and hunting companions.
Dennis was gifted in so many ways. He was much sought after for his talents in researching, fixing and authentically restoring the plaster and brickwork of historic landmarks. In this way, he left his fingerprints on many buildings and plantations across the coastal south, including in Charleston, SC, and Georgetown, SC.
He was also noted for his culinary skills, especially seafood, and his collection of hundreds of cookbooks, including regional and international cuisines, is legendary. His own version of She-Crab Soup was known to cause quite a swoon among the locals of Folly Island, SC, where he and Crystal had lived for many years. The accolades were well deserved. No other restaurant version has ever measured up. Must have been that grated sweet potato he added to his.
At Dennis' request, no service is planned. Burial will take place at a later date in Wolfinger Cemetery, Berkey, Ohio.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion.
Condolences can be sent to the family at www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
