Obituary

Pawley's Island: Denny Marvin Short, 68, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Pawley's Island. Mr. Short was born in Norton, Va. on November 20, 1936, son of the late Earl Jennings Short and Virginia Blair Short. He grew up in Norton, graduated from J. I. Burton High School and Virginia Tech, and served in the Army. Mr. Short was general manager of a number of MeadWestvaco container plants. After retirement, he moved to Pawley's Island, where he was an active member of St. Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church and a former chairman of the church Board of Trustees. Surviving are: his wife, Kay Mixson Short of Pawley's Island; a son, John Mark Short of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Denise Short Gowen and her husband Steve of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Christopher Mark Gowen of Clemson and Andrew Denny Gowen of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Larry Short of Wilmington, N. C.; a sister, Alice S. Dockery of Richmond, Va.; and a brother-in-law, James L. Mixson, Jr. of Statesville, N. C. Memorial services will be four o'clock Thursday afternoon, July 28, 2005, at St. Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Milton L. McGuirt; The Rev. James B.
