Obituary

Georgetown: Diane Cheek Van Every passed away peacefully in her home on July 8, 2007. Diane grew up in Asheboro, N. C. She received her undergraduate degree in Business from Elon College and her Masters in Arts from N. C. State. Diane moved from Raleigh, N. C. to Litchfield Beach in 1978. She began her career as the Assistant Director/ Job Placement Coordinator for the Georgetown Career Center and District. From 1991 – 1993, she held the position of Director of Vocational Education. Diane taught Business Education until 2006 at Waccamaw High School. Diane was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda Chapter. She served as Secretary for the Occupational Education Graduate Student Association and devoted over twenty-eight years to education. Diane loved the beach. Sitting in her chair, listening to the ocean and reading a book brought great pleasure to her. She was also an avid snow skier, traveling as far as New Zealand to feel the wind in her face as she traversed the slopes. Diane was predeceased by her father, Boyd Cheek, her Aunt Georgia Bray, her Aunt Lucille Cox, Aunt Ethel Albright, Uncle Jimmy Cheek and Uncle Laughton Cheek. Surviving Diane are: her husband of twenty-six years, Salem A. Van Every, III of Georgetown, SC; his children, Laura, Salem, and Katherine; her Mother, Geraldine Cheek of Ramseur, N. C.; her Aunt Nell Alaha of Gastonia; her children, Tracy Pearson of Gastonia, Joie Alala of Charlotte, and Sherry Cox of Charlotte. Her Aunt Swanna Moffett of Asheboro and her children, Linda and Clearance Sexton of Asheboro, Tommy Moffett of Mcleansville; Aunt Faye Dunn of Ramseur, Aunt Virginia Patterson of Snow Camp, N. C. and her children, Debbie Saunders of Valdese, N. C., Jack Patterson, Jr. and Shanda Newport of Snow Camp and Uncle Broughton Cheek of Climax, N. C.; her cousins, Betty Hamrick, Jeanelle Butcher, Garland Bray, Jr., Sherry Page, Karolyn Carmac; and life long friend, Patrick Swindel Tyson of Greenville, N. C. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the home at 226 Dune Oaks Drive, DeBordieu Colony, Georgetown, S. C. on Wednesday morning, July 11, 2007, at eleven o'clock.
