Obituary

Donald Williams Camlin, 89, son of the late Wade Overton "Buster" Camlin and Cora Trudel Camlin, (Del), passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Broward Health Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

A native of Georgetown County, Donald was born on August 17, 1934. He was one of six children. He attended Winyah High School where he played football as a Winyah Gator. Upon graduating high school in 1952, he attended Presbyterian College, followed by the Great University of South Carolina. He served in the National Guard before he enlisted with the United States 101st Airborne Division. He finished Airborne school as Special 3rd Class Donald W. Camlin, a qualified parachutist. When he was released from active duty with honorable discharge, he returned to serve another term with the National Guard in South Carolina.

In 1958, he married his childhood sweetheart, Lois Ann Hough Camlin. They had two daughters, Kimberly and Courtney. They moved their family to South Florida, where Donald was recognized for being the top salesman with American of Martinsville. He lived a life full of all the things he loved, his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved saltwater fishing and hunting. When he wasn't in the office, you could find him in his boat or dressed in camo hunting for his next bird. Donald had seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and he spent his summers running the roads for vacation with his family on Pawleys Island and teaching them all the important things in life.

His "big time" personality always brought so much joy and laughter to those around him. His memory will remain forever in the hearts of his family, friends, and those honored to have known him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lois Ann Hough Camlin; daughter, Kimberly Dawn Gerali; father, Wade Overton Camlin, Jr.; mother, Cora Trudel Williams Camlin; brothers, Wade Overton Camlin, III and Barry William Camlin; and nephews, Wade O Camlin, IV and Barry Keith Camlin.

His legacy will be carried on by his sisters, Becky Ward Curtis and Mary Del Morris; brother, Glen Davis Camlin; daughter, Courtney Camlin Manchester (Brian); son-in-law, Anthony Gerali; grandchildren, Colby Camlin Moore (Matthew), Logan David Manchester, Tyler Alan Gerali, Austin Brian Manchester, Chandler Don Gerali, Jordan Leanne Manchester, and Brendan Alexander Gerali; great-grandchildren; Bailey Ann Camlin, Memphis Williams Moore, Henleigh Dawn Moore, Lanson Eugene Lee Moore; and many other family members that he loved so dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Georgetown. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.

The Georgetown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the Camlin arrangements.
