Obituary

Dorothy C. Budd, 96, passed away on December 11, 2025, in Newberry, SC. She was born on January 13, 1929, in Noma, Florida to the late Zelotes and Gladys Bell Balkcom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, JC Budd; sister, Agnes Ard (Taft); brothers, Tommy Balkcom, Howard Balkcom, Jerry Balkcom, and Millard "Junior" Balkcom; and a son, James C. "Butch" Budd, III.

She attended and graduated from Holmes County High School where she enjoyed participating on the basketball team and began her love of tennis. She married her beloved husband, James C. Budd on June 1, 1945. She was employed in 1965 with Home Security Life for approximately 30 years and enjoyed the fellowship and meeting people's needs. She was recognized as one of the top agents throughout her employment. Dorothy was a proud and active member of First Assembly of God in Georgetown, SC for many years and was active with the WMA of the church.

Her entire life touched a multitude of family and friends; all of whom will remember how she welcomed them with much love, kindness, and generosity. She was always thinking of others before herself and drew strength from her love of God all of her life.

Dorothy is survived by her son. D. Stanley Budd (Lise) of Irmo, SC; daughters, Barbara Lamb (Bob) of Newberry, SC and Traci Lawing (Graham) of Pawleys Island, SC; daughter-in-law, Shirley Budd of Beulaville, NC; grandchildren, James C. "Curt" Budd, III, Kelly Batts (Chuck), Jennifer Lee Walter (Arthur), Hannah Judd (Shelby), Curtis Lawing, and JC Lawing; and six great-grandchildren.

Her family extends a special thank you to all the staff of Springfield Place and Three Oaks Hospice for their care and comfort over the months and years.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Saturday, December 13 at Georgetown First Assembly of God, 331 St. James Street. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, December 14 in Georgetown First Assembly of God, with burial to follow in Sampit Methodist Church Cemetery,

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God, Georgetown SC or an organization of one's choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home, Maryville Chapel, 2200 S. Fraser Street.
