Pawley's Island:
Dorothy Gettys Lesslie, 85, died Saturday, February 14, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown.
Mrs. Lesslie was born in Charlotte, N. C. on February 22, 1918, a daughter of the late Thomas Roddey Gettys and Missouri Martin Gettys. She was a graduate of Winthrop College. Mrs. Lesslie taught High School History and retired from Chester High School. She was the 1965 Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Lesslie was a member of Chester Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church. She was a former President of the Women of the Church, Chairman of the Bereavement Committee, and a member of the Wednesday Morning Bible Study and Jake Colvin Sunday School. Mrs. Lesslie was also a member of the Variety Study Club and the Diversity Study Club.
Surviving are: her husband, Robert Gettys Lesslie of Pawley's Island; a daughter, Dorothy Lesslie Mueller and her husband Howard of Georgetown; a brother, Richard Henry Gettys of Easley; and four grandchildren, David Hamilton, III of Pawley's Island, Lesslie Hamilton of Athens, Ga., and Bobby Mueller and Kate Mueller, both of Georgetown.
Mrs. Lesslie was predeceased by three brothers, Ret. Maj. Gen. Charles Martin Gettys, Gillom Alexander Gettys, and Thomas Roddey Gettys, Jr.
Memorial funeral services will be at two o'clock Monday, February 16, 2004, in Chester Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Dwight Pearson.
