Pawleys Island:
After a courageous battle with lung cancer, Douglas Taylor Monk died on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.
He was born July 13, 1938 to the late Theodore and Edna Monk in Montclair, N. J. A graduate of Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., he worked for McGregor Sportswear in the men's outerwear division in Dover, N. J. and Philadelphia, Penn. for 23 years. As a contract manager for Londontown Corporation (London Fog) in Eldersburg, Md., he enjoyed traveling to Asia, the Caribbean, and South America. Upon moving to Greensboro, N. C., he became an audiometric technician for Health & Hygiene, Inc. and Workplace Hearing.
In 2007, Douglas and his wife of 46 years, Jean Johnson Monk, retired to Pawleys Island. He was the beloved father of Thomas Christian Monk of Wilmington, N. C. and Kathryn Taylor Monk of Charleston. He is survived by his brother, David Bruce Monk of Hinsdale, Mass.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held at eleven-thirty on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011, at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church, 9967 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, S. C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caring House, 2625 Pickett Road, Durham, N. C. 27705, a non-profit organization which provides accommodations for cancer patients receiving outpatient treatment at Duke Medical Center.
