Conway:
Peter Anthony Tucci, MD, 87, of Conway died at NHC on Feb 2, 2009.
He was born in Montclair, NJ, the son of Michael and Antionette Tucci. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 yrs., Ann McGoldrick Tucci.
Dr. Tucci graduated from St. Peter's College, Jersey City, NJ with honors in 1943 and Marquette University School of Medicine, WI with honors in 1947. He practiced as a board-certified anesthesiologist at St. Joseph Hospital, Paterson, NJ, St. James Hospital in Newark, NJ and then at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ as faculty of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ.
In 1976, Dr. Tucci moved with his wife and family to Georgetown, where he founded and was president of the Georgetown Anesthesia Group at Georgetown Memorial Hospital until 1987. While Chief of Anesthesia, he served as chairman of Quality Assurance Committee, member of Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, member of Intensive Care Committee, Chairman of Ad Hoc Committee on Ambulatory Surgery and Chief of Respiratory Therapy.
In 1989 Dr. Tucci was appointed to the MUSC faculty as Clinical Assistant Professor. He also served as President of SC Society of Anesthesiologists from 1986-1987.
Dr. Tucci served in the Naval Reserves during WWII. He served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corp at Letterman Army Hospital during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1956.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Georgetown for 23 years. Dr. Tucci was a member of the choir as well as serving in other church organizations, including the Knights of Columbus.
Peter was predeceased by: a sister, Alba Munn of Menlo Park, NJ; and leaves behind brothers, Philip Tucci and wife Mercedes of West Orange, NJ; Joseph Tucci and Michael Tucci of Sarasota, FL.; and a sister, Geraldine Weinspach and husband, Fred of Clifton, NJ.
He is survived by sons, Dr. James Tucci and wife Judy of Belmont, MI, Peter Tucci, Jr. and partner Irene Mobley of Georgetown, and Philip Tucci and wife Amy of Irmo; daughters, Mary Savarese and husband, Michael of Sleepy Hollow, IL, Barbara Potopowicz of Howell, NJ, Teresa McKinney and husband Michael of Conway, Peggy Davison and partner John Masi of Bloomfield, NJ, Martha Bourne of Carey, NC, and Loretta Hunt and husband, James of Issequah, WA. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grand children.
Peter Tucci will be missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
Visitation will be at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm.
A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am on Friday, Feb 6, 2009 at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Georgetown.
