Obituary

Andrews: Robert Davidson Harper, M.D., 86, died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at his residence. Dr. Harper was born in Andrews on September 27, 1920, a son of the late Samuel Paul Harper and Clara Wooley Montgomery Harper. He grew up in Andrews and was a graduate of Andrews High School. Dr. Harper received a Bachelor's degree of Pharmacy and Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of S.C. He served as a physician in the US Navy during WWII. Dr. Harper began his medical practice in Andrews in 1946. He joined the staff of the new Georgetown Memorial Hospital in 1950 and served on the staff of the hospital for 41 years. Dr. Harper retired from the hospital in 1991 but continued his private practice in Andrews. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, an honorary member of the Cotillion Club of Georgetown, and a member of the Winyah Indigo Society. Dr. Harper was a Mason, a life Shriner, and a member of the Royal Order of the Jesters. Dr. Harper was predeceased by: his wife, Ruth Jeanette Baker Harper; two brothers, Samuel M. Harper and Keith M. Harper; and a sister, Sarah H. Bailey. Surviving are: two sons, Edward Paul "Buzz" Harper of Macon Ga. and Robert Davidson Harper, Jr. of Georgetown; a daughter, Mary Ruth Harper Ragland of Pawleys Island; a brother, J. P. Harper of West Point Va.; a sister, Mary LeNora Harper of Andrews; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be eleven o'clock Saturday morning, July 14, 2007, in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill and Kay K. Fryman.
