Dr. Robert William McGrath, 86, died Monday, August 5, 2013, at his residence.
Dr. McGrath was born on January 31, 1927 in New York City, NY, a son of the late John Francis McGrath, Lillian Nicholson McGrath. He graduated from Regis High School in 1944 and served in the U S Army during W. W. II from 1944 until 1946, attaining the rank of Infantry Staff Sargent.
Dr. McGrath graduated from Cornell University and New York Medical College, and did a Rotating Internship from 1954 to 1955 at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City. He served his General Surgical Residency from 1955 to 1959 at Veterans' Administration Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Dr. McGrath received certification from the American Board of Surgery, General Surgery, A. C. L. S.., 1990.
Dr. McGrath received appointments as Attending Surgeon, St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center of New York, Clinical Assistant Professor, New York Medical College, Vahalla, Attending and Consulting Surgeon, Mary Manning Walsh Home, New York, Chief of Surgery, Mary Manning Walsh Home, and attending surgeon at Beekman downtown New York City.
Dr. McGrath was predeceased by his step-mother, Inez Thorpe McGrath.
Surviving are: his wife, Helena G. McGrath of Georgetown; three sons, Alex McGrath (Susan) of Richmond, Va., C. Joaquin Samper (Maria) of Moscow, Russia, and Robert McGrath of New York; a daughter, Mary Jane McGrath of New York; a brother, Rev. Edward McGrath of India; and fourteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were private. Officiating was the Rev. Ronald J. Farrell.
