Georgetown:
Edward Ernest Thornley, 79, died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mr. Thornley was born in Moncks Corner on January 2, 1934, a son of the late Ernest Leroy Thornley and Maidia Tarte Thornley. He grew up in the Hell Hole Swamp community of Berkeley Co. and graduated from Macedonia High School. Mr. Thornley served in the Navy. He was a retired employee of International Paper Company and was a television repairman. He was a former member of Providence Baptist Church in Moncks Corner and Graves Southern Baptist Church in Georgetown, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Thornley was currently a member of Pawleys Island Community Church. He loved Bible studies and discipleship at the church and was working through John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion.
Mr. Thornley had a love for wood working, model airplanes, electronics and all things pertaining to aviation. He had an insatiable curiosity about how everything worked. Mr. Thornley loved all animals, especially cats, but his favorite was his ox Bumble Bee that he had as a boy growing up.
Mr. Thornley was very devoted to his wife Shirley, his boys, and grandchildren. He gave his children a great foundation for life and was a great provider.
He was predeceased by: a brother, Roy Thornley; and a sister, Evelyn Patrick.
Surviving are: his wife, Shirley Ann Miller Thornley of Georgetown; two sons, Colin P. Thornley of Ashville, N.C. and Chaplain (Major) Andrew L. Thornley (Leigh) of San Antonio, Tex.; four grandchildren, Jesse, Sarah, Abigail, and Rachel Thornley.; a great-granddaughter, Audrey; and a brother-in-law, Bryan Patrick.
Funeral services will be ten o'clock Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013, at Pawleys Island Community Church Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Philip Comfort, Rev. Colin P. Thornley, Chaplain (Major) Andrew L. Thornley, Elder Mike Goude, and Rev. Mike King.
Burial will follow at three o'clock in Thornley Memorial Cemetery in Moncks Corner.

The family will receive friends at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, Tuesday evening, November 26, 2013 from five until seven.
